Kinetic Flossing

Kinetic flossing is a therapeutic technique that involves using a narrow, elastic compression band (usually made of rubber or latex) to wrap around a specific joint or muscle group. The band is applied with tension and creates a temporary restriction of blood flow to the area.
The term “flossing” comes from the action of wrapping and unwrapping the band, similar to the motion of flossing teeth with dental floss. The goal of kinetic flossing is to create a compression and decompression cycle, which is believed to have various potential benefits, including:
1. Increased Blood Flow: The temporary compression followed by release is thought to enhance blood flow to the tissues once the band is removed. This can potentially promote tissue healing and recovery.
2. Enhanced Joint Range of Motion: Kinetic flossing is often used to improve joint mobility and flexibility. The band’s pressure may help mobilize fluids within the joint, potentially leading to increased range of motion.
3. Reduction of Swelling and Edema: By promoting better circulation and lymphatic drainage, kinetic flossing might help reduce swelling and edema in the targeted area.
4. Pain Relief: Some proponents of kinetic flossing suggest that the technique may help alleviate certain types of pain, although the exact mechanisms behind this effect are not entirely understood.
